REACHING THROUGH SCREENS:
Desire, Contact & Disconnection Online
An experiential workshop exploring how we meet through screens.
So much of our lives now happens online.
We work here. Meet here. Collaborate, manage, teach, argue, flirt, maintain friendships and relationships here.
Who are we online? How do we connect remotely? What does body mean on screen?
In this workshop, we make the mundane important. We explore the impact of Slack chats on our physical selves, and how that impacts the conversation. We look at what happens when we meet virtually — with a representation that is me, but not me. What does gaze become via the webcam?

WHO IS THIS FOR?
The workshop is open to anyone interested in exploring our lives online, and may be especially relevant to people working remotely, managers and leaders, HR professionals, educators, designers, developers, therapists and other helping professionals.
It is open to anyone curious about the online aspects of their lives — professional or personal.
WHAT WILL WE ACTUALLY DO?
We will work with the online experiences we usually move through without much thought. A Slack exchange. The moment before turning your camera on. What happens in your body while waiting for someone to reply. Where you look when someone is speaking on Zoom.
There will be experiments, conversation, observation and opportunities to work with material brought by participants. We will slow down ordinary online moments and notice what happens when we give them our attention.
We will cultivate digital mindfulness.
BRING SOMETHING WITH YOU
You are invited to bring real stories and artifacts from your online life for us to explore together. An email exchange you've saved because it still means something to you. A case study from an online relationship. A Slack conversation from work. A screenshot, text exchange, dating profile, video call experience — or something else entirely.
